.... drug company Johnson and Johnson known as J and J said Tuesday that its own studies show a second shot conshot of of its its covid 19 vaccine greatly increases protection the world health organization approved J and j's Jansen vaccine based on only one shot but the drug company says a second dose delivered either 2 or 6 months after the 1st offers longer and greater protection The findings have not yet been examined by independent scientists the company said the single dis the single dose is 70% effective 4 up to 8 months a second dose however results in 94% protection against moderate to severe forms of the virus J and J said it sent the results of its study to health organizations around the world including the US Food and Drug Administration fda The health organizations can then consider approving a follow up dose the J and J study included 30000 people who received a second dose 56 days after their one is 1st their 1st 1J and j's said people dealt with the 2nd dose well and felt side effects similar to the 1st dose the vaccine was found to be less effective over time for people over the age of 60 but still prevented hospitalization 78% of the time Is J and J noted that during part of their study from March through late July the Delta variant of covid 19 was present in the US last week the fda recommended emergency us emergency use of a 3rd shot for people over 65 who received the tudo's fizer beyond Tech vaccine so far fizer is the only company to send the fda for a decision on additional shots I'm Dan fredell
